An Edgenoid is a physical intelligent entity that operates at or near the computational edge, using artificial or machine intelligence to perceive or receive information representing the physical world, interpret that information, and produce meaningful information, decisions, communications, commands, or physical actions related to the physical world.
An Edgenoid may itself constitute an edge node, or it may operate through or in association with another edge node.
An Edgenoid is defined by its intelligent physical-edge capability and operation—not by its manufacturer, brand, ownership, appearance, mobility, or particular physical form.
The edge node is the point.
The Edgenoid is the intelligent
thing at the edge.

The term is not restricted to humanoid robots or moving machines.
The physical form does not define the assignment. Configuration, intelligence, sensing, edge operation, and meaningful output define how an Edgenoid serves.
An intelligent vibration monitor, acoustic monitor, AI camera, industrial vision device, or similar system may qualify as an Edgenoid even when its output is information rather than physical movement.
Mechanical actuation is NOT required.
Edgenoid-capable describes a physical device that has the architecture and capabilities necessary to operate as an Edgenoid but is not presently configured, assigned, or operating in that role.
A modern smartphone sitting unused may be Edgenoid-capable.
Edgenoiding is the process of configuring, adapting, assigning, or redeploying a capable physical device so that it operates as an Edgenoid.
“Edgenoid this phone for equipment monitoring.”
A device that has undergone this process may be described as Edgenoided.
This concept can include giving retired or underused technology a new intelligent physical assignment rather than discarding its remaining capabilities.
A supporting technical classification framework.
The entity exists in or directly interfaces with the physical world.
It receives information representing the physical environment.
It applies artificial or machine intelligence beyond ordinary fixed deterministic control.
Meaningful intelligent processing occurs on the device or sufficiently near the information source to constitute edge processing.

Devices designed from the beginning to operate as intelligent physical entities at the edge.
